What the filter set protects against
The filter set includes 2 filters:
- Extract filter – G4 (Coarse 65%) – protects the heat recovery unit
- Supply filter – G4 (Coarse 65%) – protects the air you breathe indoors
The set follows the ISO 16890 standard for particle filtration efficiency. The G4 filter captures up to 65% of coarse airborne particles larger than 10 microns, such as soil particles, large pollen grains, plant debris, insect wings, sawdust, sand and textile lint. It keeps visible dust and general build-up out of the ventilation system, which lowers energy consumption, keeps the unit quiet and extends its service life.
Usage and maintenance
Zehnder recommends replacing the filters every 6 months to keep air quality and system performance at their intended level. How often they actually need changing depends on:
- Air pollution levels (urban versus rural surroundings)
- Allergies or respiratory sensitivities in the household
- Pets indoors, or smoking
- Dust from nearby construction work
If your unit has a filter change indicator, follow its alerts. Otherwise check the filters by eye — if they look heavily soiled or clogged, replace them.
About the EVO range and manufacturing quality
The EVO heat recovery units are made by Siber, a residential ventilation manufacturer based in Barcelona that joined the Zehnder Group in 2024. The same units are sold under both the Zehnder and the Siber name, so this filter set fits either badge — check the model number on your unit rather than the logo. Units from the EVO range are listed as certified components in the Passive House Institute database; the EVO 4, for example, is certified at 80% heat recovery over an airflow range of 139–322 m³/h, and performance like that depends on clean filters and the low air resistance they give.
This filter set is manufactured by Zehnder and purchased directly from them, so authenticity and consistent quality are assured. The filters are made using Z-line pleating, which increases the filtration surface by folding the medium into multiple pleats — improving particle capture while keeping air resistance down. Using original filters keeps the system operating within the manufacturer's stated technical data.
