How do I find the right filter for my Brofer heat recovery unit?

Since Brofer heat recovery units (e.g. the RDCD series of plate exchangers) are sold in several different configurations, the safest way to find the right filter is to measure the extract and supply air filter panels directly (length × width × height in millimetres) and compare them with our sizing catalogue. The model code on the label on the unit's front cover will also help narrow the search down to the exact product faster.
What filter classes fit Brofer units?

Residential Brofer heat recovery units usually use the standard M5 and F7 class filter combination, in line with the ISO 16890 standard applied across most European heat recovery systems. Both our original-specification and compatible filters are made to the same tolerance requirements, so choosing between them doesn't affect filtration efficiency or airflow.
How often do Brofer filters need to be replaced?

For Brofer units, the standard recommended interval is 3–6 months, and during the first year after installation it's worth checking the filters more often to see how quickly they clog in your particular environment. For households with pets, or where renovation or construction work is going on nearby, it's advisable to aim for the shorter end of the interval – around 3 months – rather than the full six.
How should I store spare Brofer filters so they don’t lose their properties before installation?

To keep unopened Brofer filters fit for installation, follow a few simple rules:
- leave them in the original packaging until you're ready to install them
- store them in a dry, room-temperature space
- keep them away from direct sunlight and moisture
Filter material that's left unwrapped for a long time can absorb ambient moisture, which slightly reduces its ability to trap dust even before the filter is put into use.
Does using a compatible filter instead of an original one void the warranty on my Brofer unit?

Using a correctly sized, ISO 16890 compliant compatible filter does not void the mechanical or heat exchanger warranty on a Brofer unit, since the filter is considered a normal, regularly replaced consumable part rather than a structural component of the unit. Manufacturer warranty terms generally only require that the filter match the specified class and dimensions – not that it carry the original brand name.
